The power of attorney is the document that individuals use to appoint an organization or a person to handle affairs they are not able to do. The appointee is called the “Attorney-in-Fact” or the agent. A general power of attorney authorizes another person to act in behalf of another in various situations while a special power of attorney limits the authority to situations specifically listed in the document. There is also the health care power of attorney where the authority is granted to another individual to make decisions about health-related matters in the event someone gets incapacitated.
